Before it was a dull brown coffee table. But we loved the look of the tasseled edging.
After a few coats of pretty “Silver Service” coloured paint and new top of glass, it is ready for your living room!

The fairies have come and set up home in our garden for 2014.
Great concert coming up at King’s Theatre this Sunday, June 1st at 7 pm.
The Annapolis Basin Community Band and the 14 Wing Greenwood Band will play a joint concert to welcome spring.
A great community event I have to promote as I play the flute in the band and know how good it is going to be!
If you are in Mrs. Nicholson Home to-day, I have tickets for sale.
Hope to see you there.
First Fridays begin again in Annapolis Royal next Friday evening from 6 to 9 pm.
Every first Friday of the month now until October!
June’s theme is “Life on the Water”. Perfect for our lovely riverside town.
There will be skippers at the market square, entertainment all around the Town, a presentation on the new boat haul-up at the wharf and stores open till 9 pm.
We will be having our now famous musical group here in the store.
Be sure to book your Friday evening in AR on June 6th – and why not stay overnight for the Farmers market on Saturday morning?
Every post-war bride wanted a piece of the “good life”, and for many that meant what my mother used to call a “canteen” – a beautiful box filled with silver cutlery. Sterling was the ultimate status symbol, but silver plate was very desirable.
One of the most popular (and most advertised!) new patterns in 1950 was “Daffodil”, made by 1847 Rogers Bros., a cutlery manufacturer originally out of Hartford, Connecticut.
Today, most brides want practical stainless steel, because it can go into the dishwasher, doesn’t tarnish and can be easily replaced if a piece is lost. What fascinates me is how perceptions of the “good life” have changed! Silver is still beautiful, doesn’t take a lot of care and has a wonderful sparkle that stainless can’t match. If you have your silver – either sterling or plate – tucked away in plastic bags, why not get it out and use it?
And if you don’t own any silver cutlery, come and see this beautiful set for eight, in an elegant butterscotch tarnish-resistant Arborite canteen that will look delightful on your buffet! It’s priced at $225.
Sam Norgard’s beaded pieces are works of art.
Mrs. Nicholson Home inspired Sam to deepen her investigation into vintage materials and techniques. The work that is created for MNH is made with an eclectic spirit. Pieces are found on travels as far as Hong Kong and Thailand and as close as the French Shore in Nova Scotia.
Buttons are vintage, often reclaimed, inspected, fine tuned and repurposed. Beads are vintage and new: all glass, a mix of 24K gold, Czech glass beads, Japanese Delicas and beads that were hand picked by Sam in markets in Hong Kong and Thailand. Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls are also incorporated.
Wrap bracelets use quality leather combined with beads in a weaving technique. Poodles are a special series incorporating Sam’s love of dogs with bead embroidery.
Earrings use off-loom bead weaving techniques. Cone forms use 24K gold Miyuki Delicas combined with Czech glass.
Silvery glam necklaces and earrings by Fran Green now at Mrs. N.
Hoops and rings and elegance!
We made it!
Hope to see you soon in Annapolis Royal – the tiny perfect town.
The wonderful Charade gift store in Annapolis Royal sold many Michel Design Works products.
Although, sadly, Charade owners Jeannie and Don have retired, Mrs Nicholson Home is pleased to take on and stock several Michel Design Works lines. We will be selling some of their delightful tea towels, foaming soaps, coasters and napkins.
All these excellent quality items make lovely hostess and birthday gifts.
Jane and I are thrilled to be opening on May 23rd for our third season at Mrs. Nicholson Home.
As you can see, our new windows are in and spring is in the air. The daffodils are out, the magnolia is about to bloom. Even the cat has come back to see when we are opening.
We will have some wonderful new vintage stock to show you as well as expanding into offering some absolutely fabulous designer jewelery we will soon be telling you about. Can’t wait to show you that !
Stay tuned. We will begin to post all about it in the next week.
See you all soon.
